2.89 crore names removed from UP's draft voter list after SIR

The Election Commission released the draft revised electoral rolls for Uttar Pradesh following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), revealing that 2.89 crore voters have been removed from the state’s voter list. Among those deleted are 46.23 lakh voters who were found to be deceased, according to official data.

The commission said Uttar Pradesh now has 12.56 crore registered voters, a significant drop from 15.44 crore recorded in October 2025 when the SIR process was initiated. The exercise aimed to clean up the rolls by verifying entries and removing ineligible or duplicate names.

Breaking down the deletions, the EC said 2.17 crore voters were removed after it was found that they had shifted their place of residence. Another 25.47 lakh names were struck off as they were registered in more than one location, violating electoral norms.

Officials said voters can verify their names in the draft list using the ECINET mobile application, making the process accessible even on smartphones. The Election Commission added that the final electoral rolls for Uttar Pradesh will be published on March 6.
